Over the years, SBS Transit has won many national awards that recognise our service excellence, commitment in staff training and development. They are:

COMPANY AWARDS

National Trades Union Congress May Day Awards
SBS Transit was conferred the Plaque of Commendation (Star) Award by National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) in 2013. The award is the highest award conferred by NTUC to companies to recognise consistent, outstanding and significant contributions towards good Labour-Management Relations, workers’ welfare and NTUC initiatives. We are the only public transport operator to be accorded this award by NTUC.
 
Land Transport Excellence Award (LTEA)
We were awarded Land Transport Excellence Award by Land Transport Authority for Most Customer-centric Transport Provider in 2010 and again in 2012 in recognition of our CARES (CAring, Reliable, Safe & Secure) initiative that redefined the overall travel experience and delivered quality customer service to commuters. We were also awarded the Land Transport Excellence Award (LTEA) for Most Innovative Partner (Services) in 2008 to recognise our innovative service delivery through iris and service design to meet different customer needs.
 
Service Excellence Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Recognition Award
SBS Transit was presented the Service Excellence Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) Recognition Award by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) in 2013 for our strong commitment towards training in service excellence.
 
LTA Safety, Health and Environment Awards
In 2021, the North East Line (NEL) was honoured with the "Safe Rail Line of the Year Excellence Award", while our Bukit Merah Bus Package received the "Safe Bus Operator of the Year Excellence Award" and our Jurong West Bus Package received the "Safe Bus Operator of the Year Merit Award".
 
At the LTA Annual Safety Convention 2019, our Jurong West Bus Package received the "Safe Bus Operator of the Year Excellence Award". The Downtown Line (DTL) was also recognised as the Safe Rail Line of the Year (Merit).
 
In 2018, DTL was conferred the “Safe Rail Line of the Year Excellence Award” while our Bedok Bus Package received the “Safe Bus Operator of the Year Excellence Award.” These awards recognised our efforts in promoting and ensuring workplace and commuter safety.
 
Singapore HEALTH Awards
Introduced in 1999 the Singapore HEALTH Awards is a biennial national platform to recognise organisations with strong commitment to promote workplace health and who have demonstrated commendable achievements in this area. The Special Mention Award category was introduced in the Singapore HEALTH Award 2017.
 
SBS Transit was one of the first public transport companies that participated in piloting health programmes for bus captains. For our efforts, we have been awarded the Special Mention Award in both 2018 and 2019.  
 
NS Mark (Gold)
In 2022, we were awarded the NS Mark (Gold) by MINDEF Singapore in recognition of our management's strong commitment in supporting National Service and Total Defence.
 
 

Total Defence Awards - NS Advocate Award
The Total Defence Awards - NS Advocate Award (Large Companies), awarded to SBS Transit in 2016, is the highest accolade awarded to employers for their exemplary support towards Total Defence and in particular, National Service.
 
 
Securities Investors Association (Singapore) (SIAS) Investors’ Choice Awards
SBS Transit was awarded Runner-up for the "Singapore Corporate Governance Award" in the Mid-Cap category for good corporate governance from 2012 to 2014 at the Securities Investors Association (Singapore) (SIAS) Investors’ Choice Awards. SBS Transit was awarded a “Most Transparent Company Award” from 2017 to 2019. In 2021, SBS Transit was awarded with the "Shareholder Communications Excellence Award" (Mid-Cap) as well as Runner-up for the "Most Transparent Company Award" (Industrials). 

Singapore Governance and Transparency Index
In 2022, we were placed at the 17th position against a field of 489 companies. Our score of 102 points is well above the national average of 70.6.

ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard
In 2018, we were placed 29th among the 100 largest Singapore listed companies.
 
ASEAN Energy Awards 2021
In 2021, Ulu Pandan Bus Depot was recognised as the winner of the Zero Energy Building (ZEB) category at the ASEAN Energy Awards 2021.
 

Human Resource Excellence Awards
We were conferred the Human Resource Excellence Award for effectively managing diversity across the Company and we were presented with the Silver Award in the ”Multi-generational Workforce Management” category in 2018. We were also the Gold Winner of the "Excellence in Retention Strategy" category at the Human Resource Excellence Awards 2021.
 
Singapore Corporate Awards 2021 (Special Edition)
SBS Transit was awarded with the "Corporate Excellence and Resilience Award" (mid-cap) at the Singapore Corporate Awards 2021 (Special Edition). This prestigious award is a strong affirmation of our commitment to strong corporate governance despite challenging circumstances. 
 
EMPLOYEE AWARDS

Excellent Service Award (EXSA)
Launched in 1994, the Excellent Service Award or EXSA is a national award that recognises individuals who have delivered outstanding service. It seeks to develop service models for staff to emulate, create service champions and professionalise services. The Excellent Service Award is conferred at four levels: Silver, Gold, Star and SuperStar Award. In 1999, 2000, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009, our staff won the most prestigious individual award, SuperStar Award in the Land Transport category. The SuperStar Award for the Land Transport category was discontinued since 2010. As at 2018, 58% of our staff have won at least one EXSA Award.
 

National Kindness Award - Transport Gold
The National Kindness Award - Transport Gold seeks to encourage the frontline staff and drivers in the public transport industry to provide courteous service to commuters. It is organised by the public transport companies and associations with the support of Singapore Kindness Movement, Traffic Police and Land Transport Authority. In 2019, 116 of our employees won the Award, of which six received the Outstanding Award for the National Kindness Award - Transport Gold. 
 
Singapore Civil Defence Force’s Awards
Bus Captain Mohd Azim was awarded with the Community Life Saver Award in 2021 for rushing out of his bus to extinguish the flames from a motorcycle on fire.
 
In 2019, two staff were presented with the Community Life Saver Awards for their swift actions in assisting passengers. Senior Assistant Station Manager Mohamed Ferdaus saved a boy who was hanging off the side of a moving escalator, whilst Bus Captain Thian Siew Mui had dashed out of her bus to put out a fire on a lorry.
 
In 2018, Station Manager Simon Fong and Assistant Station Manager Abdul Azim were presented with the Community Life Saver Award for saving the life of a commuter who had passed out at a station’s platform and had no pulse. They performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation and used an automated external defibrillator to get his heart beating until the paramedics arrived.
 
Bus Captain Jiang Hong received the Public Spiritedness Award when he used the fire extinguisher on his bus to help put out the flames from a burning car in 2016. 
 

Singapore Road Safety Awards
Our Bus Captains consistently win awards in the Public Bus Category at the Singapore Road Safety Awards:

  • In 2021, Senior Bus Captain Ng Swee Fatt won the "Safe Driver" award (Merit). 
  • In 2019, Bus Captain S Muthiah S/O Suppiah won the "Safe Driver" award.
  • In 2018, Bus Captain Jin Shu Juan clinched the “Safe Driver" award.
  • In 2017, Senior Bus Captain Ho Ah Seng was awarded the "Safe Driver" award and Bus Captain Tham Moon Kiat the "Most Improved Driver" award.
Bus Captain Thian Siew Mui also received a Commendation Award for her civic mindedness and swift action in extinguishing a fire on a lorry. 
 
 
SkillsFuture Fellowships Awards
Our staff were honoured at the SkillsFuture Fellowships Award for being lifelong learners. They received a training award for being champions of lifelong learning and their commitment to contributing to the skills development of others.
 
Chief Bus Captain Lim Boon Long and Senior Bus Master Technical Specialist Han Tat Toon received the SkillsFuture Fellowships Award in 2017, Master Technical Specialist Jumari Bin Sermin and Senior Bus Captain Goh Pek Hong in 2018 and Senior Technical Specialist Hainee Abdul Rahman in 2021. 
 
Singapore BusTech Grand Challenge 2021
Launched on 15 November 2021, the inaugural Singapore BusTech Grand Challenge was jointly organised by the Singapore Bus Academy (SGBA) and the NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i). It aims to uplift professional recognition, raise technical skills and standards, recognise the contributions of Singapore’s public bus technician workforce. Participating teams were required to compete in a series of 12 technical challenges across three main categories - mechanical, electrical and diagnostics. 
 
Our team from Ang Mo Kio Workshop won the Grand Champion, while the team from Hougang Workshop won the 1st Runner-Up for the challenge. In addition, Ang Mo Kio Workshop Technical Specialist Tiew Chong Lin won an Individual Award for Mechanical Category.
