06 July 2006 – Still can’t decide where to watch the World Cup finals? SBS Transit has the perfect answer.
From 8-10 July 2006, SBS Transit will be celebrating Thank You Commuters’ Day in conjunction with the World Cup Carnival at the open field near Buangkok NEL Station. There will be a 44-hour carnival boasting food stalls, a charity flea market, kiddie rides and live band performances. Free movie screenings and “live” telecasts of the World Cup 3rd/4th placing & Finals will be made available on a 200-inch projection screen under the stars.
To add to the excitement, a football challenge and a lucky draw will be held.
Mr Ong Boon Leong, Executive Director, SBS Transit said, “We’ve been looking at fun and interesting ways to reach out to our commuters. We hit upon a live World Cup screening, knowing how much Singaporeans love football. The games and food stalls were added on to inject more life into what we hope will be a huge party for everyone.”
SBS Transit’s ‘Thank You Commuters’ Day” is an annual affair which started out in 1998. In previous years, goodies like chocolates, special limited edition bus and train models, rice, 3-in-1 coffee mixes and mints were handed out to commuters. Concerts and funds raising activities were also organised in some years.
This year’s event, besides being the largest, is also significant as it involves a funds-raising element. A Charity Flea Market selling goods donated by staff of ComfortDelGro Group of which SBS Transit is a subsidiary will also be set up. Collections from the Flea Market will go to the Handicaps Welfare Association and the Society for the Physically Disabled. SBS Transit will match dollar-for-dollar for all donations.
