26 July 2006 – Ten thousand Comfort and CityCab taxis and 2,500 SBS Transit buses will proudly fly the National flag to celebrate Singapore’s 41st birthday this year. It will be a part of a series of activities which ComfortDelGro will embark on to celebrate nationhood.
From today, the front passenger windows of all Comfort and CityCab taxis and the dashboards of all SBS Transit buses will be fixed with a mini National flag. Called “Flags on Wheels”, the project is a joint effort with the People’s Association and is aimed at encouraging all Singaporeans to display the National Flag.
Mr Kua Hong Pak, Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of ComfortDelGro, said: “ComfortDelGro may be the world’s second largest land transport company but we are, first and foremost, a Singapore company. What better way to show how proud we are to be Singaporean than to fly the national flag on our taxis and buses?”
Agreeing with this view, 67-year-old Comfort Cabby Nah Tua Bah, who is also president of Comfort Taxi Operators’ Association and a grassroots leader, said: “I feel very proud to see the flag flapping in the wind. It reminds me that I am a Singaporean. As I pick up tourists, I am also very happy to tell them more about Singapore and our national celebrations.”
Apart from “Flags on Wheels”, ComfortDelGro’s advertising arm, Moove Media, is also joining in the celebrations – with its signature cows.
As part of its “Saluting Singapore” campaign, Moove Media will be painting 500 red cows on Comfort and CityCab taxis. Moove’s cow decals will also be given out during this period. Forty-one cars owners spotted with the cow decals will win themselves a limited edition three-dimensional National Day cow. These cows will be dress in a red t-shirt as part of the celebrations. Results of the lucky draw will be posted on Moove’s website at www.moovemedia.com.sg in September 2006.
The red cows will also be placed islandwide in about 30 locations, including Orchard Road, Beach Road, Hill Street, Pasir Ris Central, Holland Road and Clemenceau Avenue from 1 August 2006. On National Day itself, they will double up as directional signs to guide the crowd from Kallang MRT station to the National Stadium.
