From 4 Feb 2008, 10 additional train trips will run each week on the North East Line, resulting in a peak frequency of 3 minutes instead of the current 4 minutes for the morning period and 4 minutes instead of the regular 5 minutes for the evening peak hours. These improvements are part of immediate measures to improve public transport, announced by Minister for Transport, Mr Raymond Lim, in his recent policy speeches on the Land Transport Review. SBST has worked with the LTA in implementing these improvements to reduce waiting times and make train trips more comfortable by reducing crowding.
SBS Transit Chief Operating Officer, Mr Gan Juay Kiat, said: "Over the years, there has been increasing demand for our train services along the North East Line. To ensure that quality of our services are not compromised, we have been adding on more trains to keep waiting times short. We will continue to do so as ridership along the North East corridor grows."
