North East Line service between Dhoby Ghaut (NE6) and Hougang (NE14) Stations was disrupted this afternoon for slightly more than 30 minutes due to a power fault. Service resumed at 4.33pm.
At 3.54pm, a power trip at the Potong Pasir Station brought train services between Dhoby Ghaut and Hougang Stations to a halt. Engineers were quickly dispatched to the station and they successfully reset the power system so that service could resume. The cause of the power fault is still being investigated.
Due to the power fault, a train headed towards Punggol came to a stop just as the train entered the Potong Pasir (NE10) Station. Unfortunately, the train doors were not aligned with the station's platform screen doors. As a result, passengers had to be detrained from the last door and guided by station staff to the nearby station which was about 20 metres away.
Meanwhile, train services between Harbourfront (NE1) and Dhoby Ghaut (NE6) Stations as well as between Hougang (NE14) and Punggol (NE17) Stations continued unaffected and remained in operation throughout.
To enable commuters to continue on their journey, commuters were able to board passing bus services for free at the affected stations. In addition, 13 shuttle buses were activated for operation. About 80 Goodwill Ambassadors were also activated for duty at affected stations to assist commuters.
We deeply apologise to the 5,900 passengers who were inconvenienced this afternoon.
