The Downtown Line (DTL) is the fifth and latest Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore. The first two stages of the DTL commenced operations on 22 December 2013 and 27 December 2015. When fully completed, the line will be about 42km (26mi) long with 34 stations, making it the longest underground and driverless MRT line in Singapore. It will connect the northwestern and eastern regions of Singapore to the CBD and Marina Bay, reducing travelling time considerably. For example, residents in the west can zip from Bukit Panjang to Bugis in less than 30 minutes.
Currently, there are 18 stations that are opened for service. They are Bukit Panjang, Cashew, Hillview, Beauty World, King Albert Park, Sixth Avenue, Tan Kah Kee, Botanic Gardens, Stevens, Newton, Little India, Rochor, Bugis, Promenade, Bayfront, Downtown, Telok Ayer and Chinatown.
