ComfortDelGro to raise up to $250,000 for charity in celebration of SG50

In celebration of 50 years of nation building, ComfortDelGro Corporation today launched the sale of 50,000 "red dots" to raise funds for charity.

The little red dots, which draw inspiration from the affectionate term that has been used to describe Singapore, can be purchased for $10 each at selected ComfortDelGro premises1 as well as Singapore Petroleum Company's pump stations islandwide. Made of durable red foam, they are mounted on a 30cm long plastic stand and can be clipped onto car windows.

Net proceeds from the sale of the red dots will go to four beneficiaries:.

  • Lions Befrienders Service Association (Singapore) (Lions Befrienders);
  • Handicaps Welfare Association (HWA);
  • Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore (CPAS); and
  • Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH).

Already, $360,000 has been pledged by ComfortDelGro and its subsidiaries. It is hoped that another $140,000 in sales proceeds will be raised over the next three months.

The largest beneficiary of the charity drive, Lions Befrienders, expects to use the funds raised for upgrading projects under the Home Improvement Programme (HIP) Fund which was jointly set up with ComfortDelGro in 2010. Through this Fund, the elderly living in one-room rental flats have received a variety of electronics and living essentials aimed at making their lives more comfortable. These include new refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, radios and fans as well as new mattresses and bed frames

Mr Richard Koong, Chairman, Lions Befrienders, said: "We are grateful that ComfortDelGro has not forgotten the less fortunate as the nation celebrates. The funds raised from the sale of these 'red dots' will definitely go a long way towards improving the lives of our seniors."

Launching the sale at the event today was Mr Chan Chun Sing, Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress, Minister, Prime Minister's Office and Adviser to the SG50 Partnership Committee.

Members of the public have until 31 August 2015 to purchase the balls for charity.
