Disruption on North East Line between Dhoby Ghaut and Potong Pasir Stations
6 April 2014 – North East Line service from Dhoby Ghaut (NE6) to Potong Pasir (NE10) Stations was disrupted earlier this evening for slightly less than an hour due to a power fault. Normal service resumed at 7.55pm.
At about 7.00pm, there was a power trip at Farrer Park Station (NE8). Initially, a delay was anticipated as the power could be restored. However, as a precautionary measure, non-passenger trains were sent to sweep the affected tunnel sections while engineers conducted a physical inspection of the power traction system to ensure safe operation of trains. As a result, train service between Dhoby Ghaut (NE6) and Potong Pasir (NE10) Stations was disrupted.
Further investigations will be conducted tonight after passenger service hours.
While inspection was being conducted, train services between Punggol (NE17) and Potong Pasir (NE10) as well as between HarbourFront (NE1) and Dhoby Ghaut (NE6) were in operation.
To enable commuters to continue on their journey between Dhoby Ghaut (NE6) and Potong Pasir (NE10), 21 shuttle buses were in operation. Commuters were also able to board passing bus services for free at designated bus stops at the five affected stations. More than 60 Goodwill Ambassadors were activated for duty at affected stations to assist commuters.
We deeply apologise to the 11,000 passengers who were inconvenienced this evening.
