Downtown Line Disrupted Due To Power Fault

7 March 2014  – The Downtown Line (DTL) service was disrupted this morning for about half an hour due to a power fault. During this time, train services in both directions at all six DTL stations were disrupted.

The fault, which occurred at about 9.35am, was due to a defect in the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system at the DTL Operations Control Centre (OCC). This affected the OCC's ability to control and monitor train operations. As a result of this, we held back all the trains at the stations' platforms as a safety precaution.

Engineers from both the DTL and Land Transport Authority were immediately activated to respond to the fault and full service resumed at about 10.10am. The cause of today's incident is still being investigated.

To enable commuters to continue on their journey, free bus rides and shuttle bus services were available at all the six DTL stations. Commuters were able to board passing bus services for free at the affected stations. In addition, 14 shuttle buses and more than 90 Goodwill Ambassadors were activated for duty at affected stations to assist commuters.

We deeply apologise to about 1,700 passengers who were inconvenienced.
