Exercise Station Guard
Public Transport Emergency Preparedness Exercise at HarbourFront MRT station

LTA-SBS Transit-SMRT Joint News Release

The Land Transport Authority (LTA), SBS Transit and SMRT Trains will carry out Exercise Station Guard on 2 August 2019, between 10.00am and 4.00pm at HarbourFront MRT station (North East Line and Circle Line). This is the second exercise of this series this year.

During the Exercise, all MRT commuters entering the station will be directed towards the fare gates near Exits A, B, C and D to undergo security screening. Commuters exiting the station will be directed to the fare gate clusters at Exit E, towards VivoCity. Some commuters may be asked to go through metal detector checks and have their belongings scanned by X-ray machines. A list of the security screening machines that will be deployed during the Exercise is available in the Annex.

Commuters should factor in additional time for the security screening during this period.

LTA, together with our public transport operators, have been conducting Exercise Station Guard since February 2018 to test and validate our security measures, contingency plans and operational readiness at public transport nodes during heightened security situations. Similar exercises were previously conducted at stations such as Jurong East (East-West Line), Newton (Downtown Line), Holland Village (Circle Line) and Hougang (North East Line).

Exercise Station Guard is part of the national SGSecure movement to strengthen security in public places and build resilience in the community against security threats. Beyond ensuring operational readiness, Exercise Station Guard also serves to raise public awareness of the security threats which Singapore faces and familiarise public transport commuters with what to do during an emergency situation.
