Extended Engineering Hours on Sengkang and Punggol LRT systems on Sundays from 27 May to 7 October 2018

SBS Transit’s asset renewal and preventive maintenance works on the Sengkang and Punggol Light Rail Transit (SPLRT) guideways1, which commenced earlier in January 2018, will continue to be conducted on Sundays during passenger service hours. Certain parts of the SPLRT will be affected by limited services till 1730hrs on Sundays from 27 May 2018 to 7 October 2018. There will only be train services on one platform, with the other platform opening from 1730hrs onwards (i.e. one-directional services).

During the extended engineering hours, works will be conducted on the concrete plinths, which are elevated slabs for the wheels of the Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) to run on. Rectification works will be carried out on the finger-joints of the plinths as they have shifted over time due to the constant movements of the LRVs on them. These finger-joints cater for expansion and contraction of the plinths and also serve to provide a smooth and comfortable ride for commuters. Works will involve hacking of the concrete plinths and repositioning the finger-joints before cementing them into place again. Extended engineering hours will allow the hacking works to be done during the day and allow the concrete time to cure before it is safe for the LRVs to run on the plinths again.

In addition to maintenance works on the plinths of the guideway, there will be enhanced preventive maintenance work done on the signalling cables, as well as the asset renewal works which include replacement of the power rail and power rail assemblies. During these works, there will be temporary sound barriers put up to reduce inconvenience to residents.

Information on extended engineering hours will be available on publicity posters and display screens located at the stations. Commuters will also be informed via announcements on the LRT platforms and alerts on SBST’s social media pages. Staff will also be deployed on the ground to inform commuters on affected dates.

Please refer to the attached photos of the finger-joints (Annex A), as well as posters for details of the schedule for Sengkang LRT system (Annex B) and Punggol LRT system (Annex C) for May to October 2018.
