Extended engineering hours on Sengkang-Punggol Light Rail Transit on Saturdays and Sundays

SBS Transit will be conducting maintenance works on certain sections of the Sengkang-Punggol Light Rail Transit (SPLRT) network on 19 weekends during passenger service hours, from 22 May to 26 September 2021. During this period, train services will continue to operate from one platform while the other will be closed for works.

The viaduct of the LRT comprises sections that are connected using fixtures called finger-joints.  Due to the constant movements of Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) running over them, finger-joints will deteriorate over time and cause bumpy journeys. During the maintenance works, some of the finger-joints of the concrete plinths along the guideways will be repaired ahead of further wear and tear to ensure continued reliability of LRT services. It will involve hacking away the ends of the concrete plinths, re-installing reinforcement bars and repositioning the finger-joints before cementing them into place again. These repair works will ensure that commuters’ journeys continue to be smooth and comfortable.

The extended engineering hours during these 19 weekends will allow hacking works to be conducted during the day to minimise disturbance to residents at night and cater time for the concrete to be cured before it is safe for the LRVs to run on the plinths.

To minimise inconvenience to residents on the affected weekends, temporary sound barriers will be put up in the work areas and customer service officers will be deployed to the stations to offer assistance to commuters. Publicity posters will be put up at LRT stations to keep commuters informed of the maintenance works carried out. Commuters will also be informed via announcements on the LRT platforms and alerts on SBS Transit’s social media pages.
