SBS Transit Unites Global Rail Operators in Singapore to Strengthen Rail Performance

19 November 2025 – As cities everywhere rethink the way people move, Singapore stands at the crossroads of innovation and execution — turning ideas into systems that set new benchmarks for metro operations.

At the inaugural International Metro Operators’ Summit (IMOS) 2025, SBS Transit brought the world’s leading rail minds together to reimagine what the future of metro operations can be — smarter, safer and more sustainable.

Themed The Future of Urban Metro Operations, the Summit explored how technology, innovation and people are transforming the way modern cities move. Discussions across 26 panels and presentations covered the use of artificial intelligence in rail operations and maintenance, strategies to nurture a workforce ready for the next phase of urban transport, and more.

Delegates witnessed these ideas in action — from a Mixed Reality simulator for emergency response training on LRT tracks, to a sign language virtual assistant supporting passengers with hearing loss, and an autonomous robot dog enhancing train inspections (please see Annex A for details of the exhibits).

About 700 delegates from some 20 countries — including representatives from Auckland One Rail, Connecting Stockholm, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, and key stakeholders such as the Land Transport Authority — gathered to exchange insights and forged partnerships that drive the next phase of metro innovation.

Ten partnerships were introduced at the Summit. This included a Memorandum of Understanding between SBS Transit and United Kingdom's PinPoynt.ai to enhance crowd management and safety in MRT stations, and was witnessed by Right Honourable Mr George Freeman, UK Trade Envoy to Singapore, and His Excellency Mr Nikesh Mehta, British High Commissioner to Singapore (please see Annex B for details of the partnerships).

Mr Jeffrey Siow, Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance, graced the event as the Guest-of-Honour, delivered an opening address and witnessed the partnerships.

Mr Jeffrey Sim, Group CEO of SBS Transit said: “Our industry is navigating rapid shifts — changing commuter expectations, technological leaps, tightening cost pressures, and an increasing focus on reliability and sustainability. None of us is facing these forces in isolation.”

He added: “I am particularly heartened by the openness in the room as various ones of us shared honestly from our experiences. When we openly exchange ideas, we shorten learning curves. When we pool experience, we raise the baseline for everyone. So, let’s keep this spirit of openness alive. Let’s keep learning from each other, challenging each other, and building together. Because when we do, we don’t just strengthen our networks — we strengthen the trust of the millions who depend on us every single day.”
