Train Service resumed on North East Line while recovery works continue on Sengkang-Punggol LRT

Statement by Mr Jeffrey Sim, Group CEO of SBS Transit:
12 August 2025 –
Train service on the North East Line (NEL) has fully resumed at 2.10pm today – about three hours after 11 stations were affected by a power fault.

Service had earlier been disrupted at 11 stations between NE8 Farrer Park and NE18 Punggol Coast stations, which occurred at about 11.00am this morning. Service, however, operated as usual between NE1 Harbourfront and NE8 Farrer Park stations.

At 12.50pm, service was restored to more stations where commuters could travel between NE1 Harbourfront and NE15 Buangkok, and at 2.10pm, the entire NEL was back to full service.

Throughout this time, free regular and bridging bus services were also in operation at the affected stations – between NE6 Dhoby Ghaut and NE18 Punggol Coast stations and from Buangkok, Hougang, Punggol, Sengkang, Serangoon and Woodleigh Bus Interchanges. Our Passenger Service Teams were also deployed at affected stations to assist and guide commuters.

The power fault also affected services on the entire Sengkang-Punggol LRT. Our engineers are working hard to restore services on the Sengkang-Punggol LRT which is expected to complete within the next two hours. Meanwhile, free bridging and regular bus services continue to be available to serve LRT commuters.

We apologise to all affected commuters for the inconvenience caused. We take this matter very seriously and are looking into the cause of the incident.
