Punggol LRT (East Loop) And Sengkang LRT (West Loop) Commence Revenue Service Today

From today, residents in Punggol and Sengkang West can look forward to enjoying a convenient and seamless transfer to the North East Line MRT system and bus interchange in both towns with the service commencement of Punggol LRT (East Loop) and Sengkang LRT (West Loop) at 1 pm and 10 am respectively.

To commemorate the start of revenue service of the Punggol LRT (East Loop) and Sengkang LRT (West Loop), SBS Transit will be donating the first week’s takings from the Punggol LRT east loop and Sengkang LRT west loop’s operations to the building fund of the Punggol Citizens’ Consultative Committee's new Community Square and Anchorvale Community Club respectively.

In addition, SBS Transit is also giving away 4,000 free goody bags for commuters who ride on either one of the LRT loops today. Staff of SBS Transit will also be distributing flyers at Sengkang LRT station and Punggol LRT station. The first 500 commuters who present the flyers at Compass Point Shopping Centre’s Customer Service Counter will get a free $5 Metro shopping voucher.

Roti prata lovers too have a reason to rejoice. As the Thanggam station along Sengkang LRT west loop is just a stone’s throw away from the famous roti prata shops along Jalan Kayu, prata lovers will have easy access to the shops if they take a train ride to Thanggam Station. They will reach the roti prata shops in no time by just crossing a bridge that links Thanggam Station and Lorong Samak.

Mr Yeo Cheow Tong, Minister for Transport, officially opened the Punggol LRT system today while Mr Wee Siew Kim, Adviser to Jalan Kayu Grassroots Organisations officiated the opening of the bridge connecting Thanggam Station to Lorong Samak to commemorate the service commencement of Sengkang LRT (West Loop).
