From tomorrow, residents who live in Punggol Drive will be able to choose from another mode of travel the light rapid transit system.
This is because the Oasis station on the Punggol East LRT line will be opened for passenger service, providing residents with a seamless connection to the MRT North East Line or the bus interchange at Punggol.
“I visited Egdedale Green on the eve of Chinese New Year and met some residents who were amongst the firsts to move in. There was only a handful of moved-in households then, but their request was similar to open up the Oasis LRT station so they can better access the LRT station. Together with my grassroots leaders, we began pursuing the various agencies LTA, HDB and SBS Transit to see how we can improve the access to public transport for this cluster. I am glad that SBS Transit accedes to our request eventually, and pledges to work with us to improve the overall public transport system in Punggol 21. I urge a win-win approach in addressing this,” said Ms Penny Low, MP for Pasir Ris Punggol GRC.
Echoing similar sentiments, Mr Gan Juay Kiat, SBS Transit’s Chief Operating Officer said, “We have been closely monitoring developments surrounding the station and have noticed more residents moving into the area. This is good news for us as we are now able to open the Oasis LRT station to cater to this growing need. Previously, with fewer households, residents had to use the Kadaloor Station.”
The opening of Oasis Station, which comes two-and-a-half years after the official commencement of the Punggol East LRT Loop, was delayed because of the lack of housing developments in the vicinity. There are now a total of seven stations in service on the Punggol East LRT Loop they are Punggol, Cove, Meridian, Coral Edge, Riviera, Kadaloor and Oasis stations. Damai Station will remain unopened due to a lack of housing developments in the vicinity.
The operating hours for the Punggol East LRT Loop remain unchanged from 0520hrs to 0035hrs. Commuters can expect the first train to arrive at Oasis station at 0523hrs. LRT service frequency remains at 4 minutes for peak hours and 6 minutes during off peak hours. The frequency will be regularly reviewed to cater to changing travel pattern.
